About Black Pearl
A collective born to protect and uplift Black women.
Black Pearl Doula Collective is a professional education and support organization based in McKinney, Texas. It trains and certifies doulas in culturally aligned, trauma-informed practices, builds birth-work businesses, and champions Black maternal health through training, outreach, and ongoing support.
Mission
Empowering birth workers. Uplifting communities.
Black Pearl's mission is to empower birth workers, uplift communities, and champion Black maternal health. The collective has grown into a movement of birth workers, educators, and community advocates, and it pursues that mission in three ways:
- Training and certifying new doulas in culturally aligned, trauma-informed practices
- Teaching doulas the business skills to build sustainable practices
- Providing culturally rooted doula support to families across life stages
Our Story
A vision rooted in Ghana, built in Texas.
The awakening
Between 2020 and 2023, founder Chanel Blackmore lived in Ghana for three years. Maternal care there revealed a stark, transformative reality: pregnant women dying at significantly lower rates than in the United States, supported by deep-rooted community involvement and the sacred practice of home birth.
The founding
Black Pearl Doula Collective was born out of a profound awakening and a vital necessity to protect and uplift Black women against systemic medical biases in maternal healthcare. What began as a calling became a collective.
The movement
Today Black Pearl has grown into a movement of birth workers, educators, and community advocates. Beyond direct client care, it trains and certifies new doulas in culturally aligned, trauma-informed practices, pairing that training with business education and community.
